Dog kicking grass after potty

My sweet dog always kicks the grass or dirt
right after he potties. Canines have been known for this behavior. Dogs have scent glands under their feet that
secrete pheromones. A couple of backward scratches into the earth stimulates the pheromone glands … which releases the dog’s scent and spreads it on that small piece of ground. Therefore, kicking dirt OR grass is not only
a way for them to leave a scent marker from their feet pads, but also a visual marker for other dogs … that lets them know that, “I was HERE!” … So, this behavior is a way to mark their
territory for other dogs, as well as to cover up the mess.
