IT IS TIME TO MEET THE THREE NEW BREEDS DEBUTING AT THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS ARENA FOR DOGS. THE WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW. CBS2’S EMILY SMITH INTRODUCES US TO THIS YEAR’S NEW PUPS ON THE BLOCK. Reporter: THESE THREE UNIQUE DOG BREEDS REPRESENT THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB SHOW THAT BEGAN IN 1877. THIS SOFT, DOG KNOWN AS A PUMI WILL PROBABLY BE SHOWN IN THE HERDING GROUP . THE PUMI DATES BACK 300 YEARS , ONCE A FARM DOG USED TO HURT LARGE SHEEP IN HUNGARY. OVER THE LAST DECADE, THE BREED HAS BECOME A POPULAR LAPDOG IN THE UNITED STATES. IT IS RECENTLY RECOGNIZED AS THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB. YOU HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 300 DOGS REGISTERED IN THE US. THEY HAVE TO BE GEOGRAPHICALLY SPREAD. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PARENT CLUB THAT IS ACTIVE. Reporter: THE PUMI EXIT GREAT COMPANION FOR A FAMILY WHO LIKES TO EXERCISE. Reporter: THIS PARTICULAR DOG, THE AMERICAN HAIRLESS TERRIER DERIVES FROM THE RAT TERRIER BREED DEVELOPED IN THE UNITED STATES IN THE 1970S. IT’S ORIGINS CAN BE TRACED TO HUNTING IN 18TH-CENTURY EUROPE. THE TERRIER IS KNOWN TO BE LIVELY SMART AND ATHLETIC. ALSO PERFECT FOR ANYONE WITH ALLERGIES SINCE THEY HAVE NO HAIR.
