Pomsky Dogs 101 – The Adorable Siberian Husky Pomeranian Mix Designer Dogs

Pomsky One of the more recent additions to the designer
dog world, the Pomsky, a.k.a. the Pomeranian Husky is a result of crossing a Siberian Husky
and a Pomeranian. And, he is gaining rapid popularity across
North America and Europe. A Pomsky puppy is perhaps one of the most
dangerous things a dog lover could ever lay eyes upon. Simply because of the fact they are so stinkin’
cute. This relatively new breed tends to be of the
fluffy, cuddly variety, but there’s a lot of variation in these pups, as well. Hi, I’m Leroy and I’m Rosie. This is Brody, and this is Animal Facts. Let’s get started. But, before we start, take a moment to like
and subscribe for more fun, fauna facts. Let us know about your kitty in the comments
below. 10. Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians, the parent
breeds of the Pomsky, are both boast being Spitz-type dogs. As such they share a common ancestry, including
being similar in appearance and temperament, traits they have passed on to the Pomsky. Although Pomeranians are now considered more
as lapdogs, their ancestors were larger working dogs first seen in the Arctic regions of the
world. 9. The Pomsky has only been around for twenty
years or so, having first appeared on the scene in America and Canada with both countries
having now established their own breed clubs. However, as yet the Pomsky is not recognized
by official international breed clubs which includes The American Kennel Club. Pomsky breeders have formed the Pomsky Club
of America, with the goal of achieving a recognized purebred dog. This can take many generations, however, and
will likely not be accomplished anytime soon. 8. He is a great family dog. The Pomsky loves being with the family and
wants to be included in everything. This includes playing lots of games with the
kids. However, because he can become a little overprotective
of his possessions which include “his” children. Like his physical characteristics, the Pomsky’s
temperament can sometimes be hard to predict and will depend on his individual genetic
makeup. 7. He is known to be a social dog and as such,
the Pomsky usually gets along with other dogs. If he has grown up with the family cat, they
generally get along well together. This is not to say a Pomsky would not take
great delight in chasing off the neighbor’s cat, however. Since they have a fairly strong prey drive,
care has to be taken when he is around smaller animals and pets. 6. Pomskies have inherited the intelligence of
both their parent breeds. The Pomeranian is among the highest ranked
breed when it comes to intelligence and the Husky is certainly no dumb dumb. However, as with most designer breeds, some
Pomskies are smarter than others. Because he is so eager to please, this charming
dog is quick to learn new things, but also quick to pick up bad behaviors. As such, early socialization and training
are essential. Your puppy needs to be taught the “basics”
from the moment he’s brought home. 5. Meet Norman, the Pomsky with over 77,000 Instagram
followers. This pooch was adopted by his owners Rachel
and Matt from the small home breeding program Northern California Pomskies Almost immediately
after bringing their new addition home, the couple created an Instagram account for Norman,
showing off his sweet fluffy face and cute features that include a set of dark rings
surrounding his adorable eyes. All of his captions are written from the perspective
of Norman. And fans just can’t get enough, with one writing:
‘I melt… cuteness overload’. A link to his Instagram account can be found
in the description. 4. He may not keep his “baby Husky” appearance. The Pomsky’s size is one of the key things
that makes him so popular. Most images online show cute, fluffy puppies,
and you rarely get to see an adult Pomsky. Pomskies can grow as much as 15 inches high
and reach up to 30 lbs. Like all designer dogs, his size can vary
wildly from dog to dog. The Teacup version is much smaller and weighs
approximately 2lbs. 3. There’ll be no more relaxing on the couch
right after work. The Pomsky is an active dog and loves to play,
so you’ll have to make sure your pooch is getting plenty of exercise. Daily walks, maybe a short trip to the park
and lots of playing is what your dog will be expecting from you every day, including
weekends. When not provided with an outlet for his energy,
he can turn destructive and develop various behavioral problems. 2. The Pomsky’s coat is soft and fluffy and
is prone to a fair amount of shedding. A Pomsky has a wonderful coat, generally,
in similar colors to his Husky mother’s, that needs consistent brushing starting at
an early age. You should also take him to a professional
groomer every now and then, for that “professional touch.” He sheds almost all
year round, with higher intensity during warm seasons. Be prepared for dog hair everywhere, on your
couch, on the floor, in your breakfast cereal… 1. The Pomsky is usually bred through artificial
insemination, which should be obvious because of the size difference between the two dogs. The mother tends to be a Husky and the Pomeranian
is the father. Most of the footage seen in this video comes
from BB Pomskies. A link to their YouTube channel can be found in
the description below.

My girlfriend and I are so torn about buying a Pomsky or an Alaskan Klee Kai! The Alaskan Klee Kai seems extremely hyper, skittish and mischievous, whereas the Pomsky seems much more calm, yet I still want a dog that can have loads of fun. (this is the first video I’ve seen where they are pretty hyper). I also emphasize loyalty. Is there a difference with male and females? We also own a pug, so we want a dog that’s compatible with his even-temperament. What do you guys think?

Can you show a PomChi, which is a Pommerian/chihuahua mix. I have one that will be a year old on Aug. 19th. Mine likes to howl when the music comes on Jeopardy or when he hears a siren. He has short hair, fluffy chest and a long curled over tail with long hair. He looks more like yours, and he does shed a lot.

  30. Carrie Hovatter says:

2 pounds??? Yeah maybe a PUREBRED Pomeranian. I highly doubt this mix would produce that small of a size. And I’m sorry but I think the purebreds by themselves are much cuter than this mix

  38. Mike 777 says:

Truly blessed to have found the pomsky I did.. med length fur, black, white, grey, and tan. Quiet as a church mouse, probably have only heard her bark a few times in the year I've had her. Both eyes bi-colored with brown and blue. One eye the top part is blue and the other eye the bottom part is blue. Which I've never seen before my pomsky Nimbus, and she's cat size only 15lbs.. thinking we could give Norman a run for his fame, but not really into showcasing.

  39. Leeann Hagerman says:

Omg, #3 so true. Mine is a little over a yr old and I got him for free a few months ago. He's about 30 lbs and his back reaches to my knees. Destructive, I have so many stories and pictures. He hates being alone when I'm at work and my daughter is at school. Plan on getting lots of chew toys, playing and chasing your dog, and going on lots of walks. Mine has lots of energy but I love my Jax.

  53. Mystery Simmer says:

I’ve had my pomsky (Bandit) for almost a year now! His birthday is on Halloween ? he’s very smart. We have him in a cage when we leave the house and he knows how to get out, and has broken the cage to where we had to go buy him another three times??‍♀️ if he’s left running around while we’re gone, he tears up the house. He loves to chew! He climbs on tables, chairs, dressers, if he wants something that is high up, he’ll surely get it! Can’t keep nothing from him lol he’s a year old and the cutest dog I’ve owned❤️ he has one blue eye and one brown one. Everyone thinks he’s a fox tho. ?

Hi, I just rescued a male Pomsky age 2 years old and I had a Pomeranian male for 13 years he passed away in May 2, 2019. I miss him immensely. The Pomsky I rescued is very hyper and likes to play aggressively and can bite me quite hard. My Pomeranian that passed away didn’t have this habit. I’d like some hints on how to stop his biting. Any advice that you give me will be much appreciated. My Pomsky is very cute and I’m happy I rescued him because the shelter was a kill shelter. It will take longer to train him as I don’t know his background except he had three different owners who all returned him, back to the shelter I really don’t know why they did. I’m just glad I was at the shelter when he was. If he stops the biting he would be the perfect dog. Thanks for sharing your video and by the way I love your daughters voice. She sounds adorable, God bless you guys.
