Top 10 Small Dog Breeds That Look Like Teddy Bears

Everyone loves a teddy bear. Whether it’s Paddington, Winnie the Pooh
or that worn out piece of stuff cloth you now keep in the top of your closet. As children, we relied on Teddy to comfort
us, but have you ever wanted to adopt a real-life Teddy Bear? Let’s take a trip into the Hundred Acre
Woods and see what adorable small dog breeds we can find. You’re Watching Animal Facts 10. Toy Poodle
A Poodle, even a Toy Poodle, are probably not the first dog you think of when you think
of teddy bears. You might be surprised what a haircut can
do. The most common request of groomers is the
teddy bear cut – and it works as advertised. The Poodles non-shedding curls are extremely
flexible when it comes to hairstyles. Poodles aren’t just all about looks either,
they are at the top of their class, being ranked as one of the most intelligent dog
breeds and are quite eager to please their owners making this small dog breed a delight
to train. 9. Shih Tzu
The standard show coat of a Shih Tzu doesn’t really scream Teddy Bear. It’s more of a silky duster with feet. But, when kept in the much more manageable
“Teddy Bear cut” the Shih Tzu is transformed into the Teddy Bear of your childhood. Shih Tzu’s are very lovable, preferring
to be close to their human companions. They are docile, friendly and connect with
everyone – adults, children, and other dogs, even strangers which is a welcome sight when
you’re at your local cafe or in the park. Back at home, they don’t require much space
so they can live in a small apartment without any issues. But just remember they love to get outside! 8. Pomeranian A sometimes overly-confident little fun-loving
trouble-maker, the Pomeranian is the star of its own show. The Pom can be described as confident and
curious, and they enjoy being treated like a royalty. These little pups are a perfect accomplice
to go on adventures with, they enjoy spending their days following you around and genuinely
enjoy new experiences. The AKC standard Pomeranian has what is known
as a fox face with a muzzle a third of the length of the skull. This is the face that has been seen on the
Pomeranian for centuries. But, there are two more faces; the slightly
shorter-muzzled Baby Doll face and the Teddy Bear face, which has a muzzle length of just
one-quarter the length of the skull. With the teddy bear face, the eyes may be
closer to the nose, the cheeks may be fuller, and the body may be more compact. Another way that one may refer to a Pom as
a Teddy Bear has nothing to do with the facial structure at all. Rather, it is a nickname given to this breed
when the coat is shaved down. Shaving to look like Boo the Pomeranian is
an example of this, a Teddy Bear Cut, much like we see with Toy Poodles. 7. Lhasa Apso Closely related to the Shih Tzu, the Lhasa
Apso was once used to guard royal palaces in Tibet, and carry that proud duty to this
day. Like the Shih Tzu, the look of Teddy Bear
is seen more in dogs that are groomed to a Teddy Bear Cut, although there are several
other cuts to choose from. Bred as guard dogs, Lhasas are very independent
dogs that take the position of protecting very seriously. Therefore, they can be very unkind to strangers,
while fiercely loyal to their family. 6. Yorkshire Terrier Yorkies are the star of their own show, and
they make sure everyone is watching. Yorkies have a lot of personality to show
off, and it comes with no small amount of sass. Yorkies live for companionship and show endless
love and trust for their owner. But their owner is the only love in their
life, and sometimes no one else is welcome into that relationship. These are lovable little lap-dogs that love
to play and explore and are perfect for singles. 5. Cockapoo One of the original Designer Dogs, the Cockapoo
is affectionate, intelligent, and attached to your side like a velcro accessory. The Cockapoo is the very definition of a companion
dog. Cockapoos are pure, unconditional love right
down to the bone. Their drive to please their loved ones
makes them perfect for first-time dog owners. And while they still need to be groomed
often, this is a very low shedding and quiet breed, making them fit into any home. 4. Maltese In its show or standard cut, the Maltese looks
more like a White Wizard than a teddy bear. But the dog’s long white fur lends itself
to a variety of adorable hairstyles, including a Bob, a puppy cut, and of course a Teddy
Bear Cut. Gentle, Playful and charming, “Ye Ancient
Dogge of Malta,” has been sitting in the lap of luxury since the Bible was a work in
progress. Today, the breed is an excellent family companion. 3. Pekingese The Pekingese is a unique breed originating
from ancient China, but even more unique is the breed’s coat which is sometimes groomed
into exuberant fashions. With a teddy bear cut from your groomer, the
Pekingese can certainly resemble an adorable childhood toy. Created as a companion dog for the ruling
class in ancient China, the Pekingese is affectionate, loyal and regal in manner, and well it’s
just CUTE. 2. Bichon Frise Cheerful, loving, and a
little bit of troublemaker – The Bichon Frise is everything you would want from a real-life
teddy bear. They are fiercely intelligent, affectionate,
silly, and cuddly. And they are no stranger to Animal Facts. One might think I’m infatuated with the
Bichon based on how often this little dog shows up in my videos. The Teddy Bear look is, like many dogs on
this list, dependent on the haircut. And, the Teddy Bear style suits the Bichon
to a tee. 1. Zuchon Of all the dogs on this list, number one was
the easiest to choose. The Zuchon, also conveniently known as the
“Teddy Bear Dog” is a Designer Dog breed; a cross between the aforementioned Bichon
Frise and Shih Tzu. This relatively new breed is also known by
the names of Shichon and Teddy Bear Zuchon. No matter what you call it, this little dog
will melt your heart and make a wonderful addition to your family. Playing and hogging attention is high on their
list of priorities, so make sure your Zuchon gets plenty of both. But this breed isn’t all about fun and games
– it will also serve as a watchdog, letting you know when someone is at the door. And this is generally the only time when it
will bark. Even though the Zuchon is small, it’s not
a yappy dog. Because the Zuchon gets along with everyone,
there isn’t a lifestyle this little darling won’t fit into. They rarely bark, are hypo-allergenic, love
kids and other animals and can be active or laid back (as the situation calls for). Boasting a happy disposition and a passion
for playtime, the Zuchon will be a loving companion for many years to come. Tell us about your Teddy Bear, either of the
stuffed toy variety or your furry companion. We’d like to hear some of your stories. If you like this video, you can check out

We love them like they were our children. We named the female Lulu, and the male Clyde. And guess what we’ll have next month! That’s right, a litter of puppies! We are so excited! They are both soooo affectionate. I’m not sure what the new mix should be called though. Thanks for the great video too! My wife and I were watching and we were both like, “they both have to be in there somewhere!” Merry Christmas everybody.

I had three teddy bears when I was a young child about the same age as your daughter and I named them Adam, Hoss, and lLttle Joe after the Cartwright Brothers in the TV series, Bonanza. Of all of the dogs that I have had however the closest one that I have to looking like a teddy bear is my sweet-natured wire-haired dachshund, Billy the Kid. He may not really look like a teddy bear but I would not trade him for the world along with my old man Chihuahua, Paco who is 16 years old. Speaking of which it's time that I get off of YouTube and go get their breakfast! The human slave is being a slacker this morning.

my lazy shichon is still sleeping even when i'm up and ready to leave the house. I would stick her jumper on (coz she hates the cold…and the heat for that matter…) and I take her to my mother's place where she is puppy sat for the day until I finish work and retrieve her. Yeah my mum treats her like a grand dog…and like most grandkids (at least I was anyway when I was small) she doesn't want to leave coz all her good toys are at gran's place. Still, she follows me home, go straight to the snack area, get her snack and take it straight to our bedroom where she would eat it. I'd play with her a little more, take her for a wee and she would sleep until her next fun filled day. I wish I was my dog!
